You are invited to a lecture on November 22 by Rein Raud, professor of Japanese Studies at the University of Helsinki and Asian Cultural Studies at the Estonian Institute of Humanities. Raud will analyze the importance of the category of difference in the works of Giles Deleuze, Jacques Derrida and Martin Heidegger in relation to the category of transience in Buddhist thought, notably in the work of Dogen — both difference and transience here taken as fundamental characteristics of Being. Finally, Raud will approach these concepts through the analysis of various metaphysical discourses used to articulate them. The purpose of this talk is to demonstrate a possibility of a comparative analysis. This is the fifth installment in the “TUJ Philosophy Lecture Series,” organized by Adjunct Professor Jordanco Sekulovski.
